Reminder – soccer at 5:30 today (field #7 at the Park). That's the patch of grass with small goals to the right and downhill from the entrance road to the field complex behind the Law School.

New place and time for Sunday Pickup!

9/14: We've decided on a new time to try to have pick-up games, that shouldn't conflict too much with Diablo games, football, or religion (respecting that for some people the last two items are the same thing).

Games will be, for the forseeable future, on Friday, at 5:30 PM - 7:30 on Field #7 at the Park. I'll post directions to the field as soon as I can. See you all this Friday!

Field Reservations for Pickup

We learned yesterday that having a field reservation for pickup is now essential. It seems that a Darden group has reserved Field #7 at The Park for 6:30 on Thursdays. I'll call the field manager this afternoon to see what's available for Law School players. Is there anyone on especially good terms with the NGSL who could plead our case for a regular spot on Copeley this fall? More later ...

9/9: Pickup on Sunday, 3 PM

This week's game is going to be at 3 PM, Sunday, at the field with the small goals (good day to be a goalie!) near the tennis courts. Yet again, the turf field is booked. At least this time we weren't "bumped".

I know I said we'd switch to Saturdays... that is still up in the air. The "other" football airs on Saturdays, not to mention UVA's own games. However, soon Sundays will be impractical because of Diablo games. If anyone can think of a time that would work for them, let me know so we can try to put together a new time that would work for the most people.

Pickup tomorrow, Thursday 9/6

Lex is going to play pickup tomorrow at 6 down by the Superfields, in that open area at the bottom of the hill on the right as you head toward the parking lot. Unfortunately, that's about as accurately as I can describe it. Everyone's welcome, although I won't be there--leaving earlier in the afternoon for a NASCAR race. Yeehaw, or git 'er done, or something.

CANCELED: Anyone for pickup on Wednesday 9/4?

There was not enough interest, so the following proposed game will not occur:

Don't miss Dan's piece on the back page of today's Law Weekly. I'd post a direct link, but what's with the scary message at www.lawweekly.org that says: "This Web hosting account has been suspended due to an outstanding billing issue." Perhaps the law school administration could take up a collection to pay your delinquent hosting bill!

Update on Sunday 9/2 Pickup

A "high priority" user has bumped us from the Carr's Hill turf field on Sunday. Instead we will play across the street (University Ave) on the field between Alderman Library and the tennis courts. Game should be from 3-5pm. See you there.

Update on Thursday 8/30 Pickup

We will play today at 6pm, but there is a chance that Copeley Field will be occupied by a softball practice. If it is, then we will move to the unfenced open area down at The Park called Field #7 (look to the right and down the hill from the entrance road).

Information about reserving space at The Park

Last spring, I asked Bill Bergen about places near the law school where we could play soccer. Here is the information he sent me about how to reserve a regular spot for pickup games.

I believe that I have a good option. Down at The Park we have a space that is called Field #7. It is not enclosed within the fences ....sits immediately to your right as you go down the road entrance to The Park.....directly behind what used to be Sloan's. The field dimensions probably are a little greater than the outfield of Copeley. Please have someone call David Heflin (4-7762) (dh9v@virginia.edu) who is the Facility Manager for The Park and North Grounds Recreation Center and he can assist them with this request. Hope this is helpful.

Pickup is on for Thursday 8/30

Lex United will be playing a pickup game at Copeley Field on Thursday 8/30 at 6pm. Feel free to join in if you are comfortable with that level of play. Email Dan with any questions.

SOCA Signup Deadline Today 8/28

Just a reminder that today is the deadline to register for SOCA adult league teams. Both Lex United and Diablo need to have 15 players registered by the end of the day. Talk to Justin Ross or Dan Balserak if you are interested in playing.

Good Pickup Game on Sunday 8/26

We had a great turnout for pickup at Carr's Hill turf field on Sunday 8/26 from 3-5pm. Logan says that he has the field for next Sunday at the same time and then we'll switch to Saturdays. We will post more information when we have it.
